DISNEY BUYS WORLDS FAIR GROUNDS IN NY PRODUCING MAJOR FESTIVAL FOR 2016
The Walt Disney World Resort has announced the purchase of the World’s Fair ground from the New York City Parks Department. In a surprising announcement, Disney is eyeing the magnificent space to develop a annual music and technology festival. Joined by Apple’s chairman
Arthur D. Levinson, who states “Apple will take center stage in curating and designing a fun and experiential experience for guests for many years to come.” IBM is also slated to open up a public space in partnership with the New York school system.
Disney also announced a giant partnership with Tesla, which will include a Tesla test track and official racetrack to be developed in New York City. Another exciting announcement is the official Anthony Bourdain food court, which will be opened all year round for guests to try delicious bites from around the world. George Kalogridis, president of Disney states, “This is a monumental decision on behalf of the Walt Disney World Resort and the City of New York to come to an understanding to bring back one of the most amazing and innovative events. I will be personally hands on with leading this project to completion, and working with companies from around the world to create a stage that’s not only pivotal in how we announce new products and technologies, but a place where consumers can be part of the experience.”
Live Nation has also joined in on the fun by being tapped to create a music line-up for the 2016 season. Michael Rapino, CEO of Live Nation states “Live Nation is proud to be a partner in this endeavor that’s going to change the music and technology landscape years to come. I’ve spoken to a few artists that are interested in opening up the festival and being part of the music platform for the next few years as we get this amazing platform off the ground. We already have confirmation from Beyonce, U2, Justin Timberlake, Deadmau5, Lana Del Rey, Bruno Mars, and a few other acts that are interested in being part of this process. Live Nation will be fully involved and promises to bring the most amazing artists from around the world to this stage each year.”
Disney will keep the title “Worlds Fair”, and expects to launch the festival in July of 2016 and span a total of 42 days for the first year.
